Hugo Peel, managing director of business-to-business PR firm ABS
Communications is jumping ship to Edelman PR together with two staff and
half of the business.
Peel, who joined ABS in 1986 joins Edelman at Easter as head of its
corporate practice and a member of its senior management team. ABS
account director Emma Bensted and account executive Julia Crawford will
go with him.
Among the clients moving with Peel are Blue Circle Properties, British
Gas Properties, Humberts Leisure and Lend Lease Corporation. In total
they are thought to represent pounds 250,000 in revenue. ABS declared
fee income of pounds 361,724 in 1995 - a 23 per cent increase - on
turnover of pounds 478,840.
Both Peel and ABS chairman Alan Bailey insisted the split was amicable -
the two ran their account groups separately while sharing overheads.
Both, however, retain their holdings in the headhunting firm
Bailey said ABS would continue with its remaining three staff and a
client list which includes the Student Support Centre and First
Penthouse. He rejected the idea of selling out to a larger PR firm.
Commenting on the reasons for the move, Peel said ABS was unable to
provide the international network and other resources which Edelman
