DIARY: PR man Kilkenny admits to friendship with Camilla, but nothing more

The marriage may be over but the PR battle ain’t. Rumours are rife that Diana is planning to hire a new press secretary. Meanwhile, on the other side, gargantuan PR efforts are afoot to make a certain Mrs Parker Bowles our new Queen of Hearts.

The marriage may be over but the PR battle ain’t. Rumours are rife that

Diana is planning to hire a new press secretary. Meanwhile, on the other

side, gargantuan PR efforts are afoot to make a certain Mrs Parker

Bowles our new Queen of Hearts.

What she needs is a good PR man, and who better than smooth-talking

Irishman Alan Kilkenny OBE, who just happens to be a good friend of

hers?

Kilkenny, a former Grayling chief exec, has, of course, previously

advised Prince Charles on raising cash for the restoration of Salisbury

Cathedral.

A national newspaper has recently claimed Kilkenny, sometimes unkindly

labelled a social-climber, privately influences hand-picked media types,

persuading them to present Camilla in a more favourable light. Other

sources have also suggested that Kilkenny is advising Mrs Parker Bowles.

But, the man himself stresses: ‘I am not Camilla’s paid PR adviser.’

But he does not deny being a close friend, having known her for several

years.

Despite media thirst for Camilla stories, Kilkenny doesn’t believe it

will be quenched by him, or by anyone else, in the near future.

‘I wouldn’t imagine Camilla plans to appoint anyone, but you’d have to

speak to her personally,’ he adds.
