Television pollster Peter Kellner is the latest ‘star signing’ for

Political Context, the start-up public affairs agency headed by outgoing

BBC head of worldwide corporate affairs Leighton Andrews (PR Week, 26

July).

Kellner, who advises BBC2’s Newsnight as well as writing political

commentary for the Observer, joins the agency as a non-executive

director.

His role will be to advise clients on which market research companies to

use, how to draw up a questionnaire and how to analyse both qualitative

and quantitative data.

‘I know how to get the best value from this kind of research,’ said

Kellner, who is currently working on plans for the BBC’s general

election exit poll as well as advising the TUC on its polling operation.

Kellner rejected the suggestion that there could be a conflict between

his work for Political Context and his existing commitments. ‘I’m not

doing advocacy or representational work where there could be a conflict

of interest with my role as an impartial commentator,’ he said.

Kellner joins Andrews and Catherine Ashton as directors of the new firm

which Andrews describes as a strategic political consultancy. Andrews

said he hopes to announce more names soon.
