Jon McLeod, Westminster Strategy’s resident spin doctor bid
farewell to his colleagues last Friday prior to joining Colin Byrne’s
New Labour lobby shop Shandwick Public Affairs.
If there was a note of regret in McLeod’s voice it was possibly prompted
by the realisation that he will not now get the chance to taste the
pounds 20,000 worth of champagne he has bought in for Westminster
Strategy’s summer party in three weeks’ time.
Fear not, Jon. I’m told Shandwick is planning a series of bashes this
summer - and knowing New Labour’s love of the bubbly stuff, we can
safely assume Krug won’t be going out of business.
Meanwhile, there are traffic problems ahead in the Westminster area on 2
July when APCO holds its summer party. With a guest list already
numbering 1,800 so far, this looks like being one of the hits of the
season. All of which will pose a conundrum for all those new Labour MPs
who have been warned about accepting hospitality from lobbyists.
