A Plus staff faced a Monday morning nightmare last week when they
arrived at their Slough office to find the roof gone and the floor
flooded.
The air conditioning unit had fallen through the roof, producing a
meltdown of computer systems.
However, the Dunkirk spirit prevailed as staff decamped to work from
home. Laptops and mobile lines meant work could go on almost as
usual.
The hi-tech agency’s new media team of seven, led by Andrew Smith, coped
particularly well while the office dried out. Smith says: ’It proved a
useful exercise, we showed that the virtual office can work. Obviously
we’ve set a precedent.’
Smith is right to think this. One A Plus director tells me that a move
to a series of ’virtual offices, that is account executives’ living
rooms, could save the agency some serious money.
