Diary: RAC man is wielding the axe at the BBC

Drivetime radio takes on a whole new meaning with BBC Thames Valley

FM’s new presenter, John Hutson.

For when Hutson is not hosting Thames Valley’s Sunday afternoon Classic

Rock Show, he doubles up as the RAC’s national head of PR.

Music buff Hutson, who owns one of the UK’s largest private music

collections and previously hosted the classic rock show on BBC Radio

Gloucestershire, uses all his own tapes, CDs and records for the

three-hour show.

’The BBC gives me the radio station and I do the show. I’m very

fortunate as I can basically play what I like,’ he enthuses.

Just three weeks into the show, which on a good day can be heard in

eight counties, Hutson is already building up a faithful following.

’I had my first fan letter the other day,’ he tells me. ’It was from

some woman in Winchester, who said she was ecstatic about the new rock

show. She said I had brought joy to her heart.’

Surely a PR first.
