US airline Delta picks international PR chief

US-based Delta Air Lines has appointed Corrie Shanahan as manager for international corporate communications.

US-based Delta Air Lines has appointed Corrie Shanahan as manager

for international corporate communications.

Shanahan has been acting manager for the past eight months, following

the departure of Dean Breest.

The role’s responsibilities include internal and external communications

in Europe and Asia. From London, Shanahan supplies strategic advice and

publicity materials to Delta’s marketing departments in 26 cities

throughout Asia and Europe.

Shanahan will report to Todd Clay, Delta’s Atlanta-based regional

manager of corporate communications. In turn, he reports to Bill Berry,

Delta’s director of corporate communications.

Shanahan joined Delta as assistant manager in October, after two years

as a journalist with American television channel NBC News and four years

with Reuters.

Clay said Shanahan’s worldwide media experience will help Delta to move

its international media relations programme to a higher level.

Shanahan said she would particularly target broadcast media in order to

raise the airline’s profile.

’We want to get a more uniform message throughout the European market,

and get people used to Delta as a global airline rather than an American

domestic airline,’ she said.

Delta retains Ketchum for public relations work in the US and uses Scope

Ketchum on a project basis in the UK. The airline appointed Saatchi and

Saatchi to handle its pounds 62.5 million global advertising account in

March.
