The British Council of Shopping Centres has appointed Focus
Communications as its first PR agency, to lobby on town centre parking
and raise awareness of its activities.
The council, formed in 1983, has asked Focus to emphasise the impact of
transport and car parking policy on shopping centres and to highlight
the need for greater security in shopping centres. Focus’ remit will
include media relations and lobbying.
Focus will attempt to build the council’s profile in a bid to increase
membership. The council has close to 1,000 members and is run by a
committee headed by recently elected president Philip Lewis.
Lewis said: ’It is my aim to ensure closer relations between owners,
retailers and the public sector on shopping related issues.’
The council’s members include site owners, retailers, developers,
consultants and local government planners.
