PARIS: Coverage of US companies in the European and US business
press decreased this year in favour of European firms, according to a
survey published last week.
The report was conducted by members of global network Public Relations
Organisation International and compiled by Paris-based member firm
Information et Entreprise. This is PROI’s third annual business coverage
It showed that US companies gained 35 per cent of overall coverage, down
from a 38 per cent share last year. UK and French companies also lost
relative column inches compared with last year.
Meanwhile, journalists’ interest in German firms increased from 12 per
cent to almost 18 per cent. Coverage of Belgian, Swiss and Spanish
companies also increased.
The survey also examined relative sectoral coverage. It found that the
number of articles on the car industry almost doubled this year.
Meanwhile, press interest in telecoms, mining and oil decreased.
PROI members in Europe and the US studied articles in leading business
newspapers in their respective countries over April and May this year.
