Transco International, the exploration and pipeline arm of British Gas,
is close to appointing a head of government relations in advance of the
company’s official launch early next year.
Subject to the approval of shareholders, British Gas will be split into
two separate companies. Transco will manage assets, including pipelines,
while British Gas Energy will handle gas trading and supply.
Transco’s corporate affairs will be led by John Wybrew, with Simon Lewis
heading up PR at British Gas Energy.
Transco’s government relations chief will have to manage a tough range
of issues, including the long running battle with gas industry regulator
Ofgas. This week British Gas is expected to trigger a Monopolies and
Mergers Commission inquiry when it finally rejects the price cuts
imposed on Transco by the regulator.
