Chandler Chicco bucks downturn

Healthcare shop Chandler Chicco Companies (CCC) is expanding its team at a time when other areas of the healthcare industry are reducing staff numbers.

The agency, which ranked first in PRWeek's 2009 healthcare league tables, is bolstering its senior team with industry heavyweights Caroline Maddock and Karine Jegard.

Maddock joins from Cohn & Wolfe, where she was deputy MD, responsible for building and leading the agency's consumer healthcare offering.

She previously worked as head of the health and lifestyle team at Euro RSCG Biss Lancaster, where she was a founding member of Sandpiper. She has been brought on board as a team leader at Chandler Chicco Agency (CCA) and will help to drive the agency's consumer activation strategies on behalf of clients.

Jegard joins from Hill & Knowlton, where she was senior associate director. She had been involved in the development of strategic comms programmes for blue-chip pharmaceutical companies.

Her work was predominately focused on global and European communications programmes while consulting on UK brand campaigns.

She joined H&K in 2006 after leaving Munro & Forster, where she had worked for 12 years in the healthcare team. Jegard also takes the role of team leader at CCA.

The hires at CCA come as staff numbers are being cut elsewhere. Last month, Edelman entered a redundancy consultation process with longstanding European healthcare MD Mike Kan (PRWeek, 10 July).

Also, WPP merged its C&W health team with its GCI Health offering late last year (PRWeek, 12 December 2008). The move prompted the departure of GCI Health MD Paul Keirnan, whose role was made redundant.

But CCC has seen consistent growth over the past two months, during which Kate Perry, Lina Sladkeviciute, Susan Grinly and Nick Mason have all joined the CCA team.

CCC European MD of operations Fiona Hall said the appointments took the number of staff at CCC London to more than 100 for the first time.
