Opinion: From our Readers - Don't denigrate civil service comms staff

Alex Hilton is free to lobby whoever he wants for more Labour Party press officers (Opinion, 14 August), but it is unacceptable to denigrate civil service communicators in doing so.

We support ministers in communicating government policy in highly challenging circumstances. That is our job. Any suggestion that civil servants are 'intransigent' or causing delay is highly derogatory and untrue.

I challenge Alex to cite a single real example of civil servants behaving like this, or to apologise to civil service communicators.
