Diary: Taking to the Triathlon like Donald Duck to water

Bronwen Andrews, head of publicity at The Disney Channel, UK is not

the sort of girl who takes sporting events lightly.

With her eyes set on 21 September’s London Triathlon - a brutal package

involving a 1,500 metre swim around West India Docks, a 40km cycle ride

and a 10km run - Andrews is pursuing a scary training programme.

For three months, on fitness consultants’ advice, she has been pursuing

6am five-mile hill runs, swimming three times a week and running up and

down her office stairs to strengthen her legs.

She’s also ’consulting a top swimming coach’ for help with her wetsuit

and navigation techniques.

There have also been professional privations. ’I do a lot of evening

press events and as I’ve cut out drink and have to eat plain food, it

can be quite difficult,’ she tells me, during a short training

break.

’But the journalists know what I’m doing and have been very

supportive.’

And how will she celebrate when it’s all over? ’Eat lots of cakes, drink

lots of champagne and stay up really late - and then start training for

the next one.’
