The PR campaign, which runs until September, will focus on managing the national media campaign around what is an increasingly sensitive subject and helping to generate greater understanding of the issues among healthcare and childcare professionals.
The campaign has already attracted significant media coverage from GMTV, BBC Breakfast and ITV News, Radio 1, The Independent and The People in addition to local press and radio.
CWM is based at Leeds Metropolitan University and was created in 1999. The programme has attracted over 5,000 young people aged five to 17 from all over the world including Kuwait, Spain, Nigeria and Bahrain.
CWM PR manager Georgie Mills, PR Manager at CWM, said: ‘The Government's Foresight Programme estimated that the future cost of people being overweight or obese by 2050 is £49.9bn. Looking at these figures, it is imperative that we take action now to tackle this issue. Funding is crucial to ensure that we can reach out and help more young people and families.'
