Sony Computer Entertainment’s head of PR Alan Welsman informs me that he
is winding down PR activity around its new computer game Playstation in
the run up to Christmas as demand is fast outstripping supply.
This is no doubt the fault of its own PR agency MacLaurin Communications
& Media and its successful profile-raising tactics. These include
shipping Playstations into the canteen of News International to the
delight of hacks on the Sun and the News of the World. Oh, and the
ability to throw a cracking party.
The last, held at the Ministry of Sound club to launch Playstation
Magazine, attracted 2,000 ravers eager to shake their tail feathers and
test their nerve with Battle Arena Tohshinden.
A chuffed Welsman informs me that ‘the staff at Ministry had never
cleaned up so much sick’.
