Scottish Television is launching a cable channel, the Scottish Channel,

which will air only Scottish-made content. The core programming for the

new channel will be output already scheduled for Scottish Television,

which spends pounds 20 million a year producing 1,000 hours of local


Bailey heads ITC publicity

Andy Bailey has been appointed head of publications and publicity within

the public affairs division of the Independent Television Commission.

Hello! move for Painell

Chrissie Painell has been appointed health and beauty editor of Hello!

magazine. She was previously health and beauty director of Cosmopolitan,

and editor of its Zest supplement.

Miller Freeman buys titles

Miller Freeman has acquired Industrial Newsletters Ltd, which produces

the bi-monthly, subscription-only newsletters Automotive Industry

International and New Materials International. The titles join Miller

Freeman’s portfolio of 15 engineering titles.

Cable firms multimedia trial

The UK’s three largest cable companies, Bell Cablemedia, Nynex

CableComms and TeleWest, have set up a media laboratory as the first

phase of the multimedia services trial agreed to in May.

Net TV makers service

Stoner Associates, which produces the bimonthly publication Programme

News, the guide to programme making activities in the UK, has launched

an on-line service called PN Online.

Young want more editorial

Young newspaper readers would rather publishers increased their cover

prices or increased the amount of advertising that they carry than cut

the number of pages, according to CIA Medialab’s latest Sensor survey.
