The Welsh Assembly Government has called in Quadrant to promote breastfeeding across Wales. Cardiff-based Quadrant won the brief against four other Welsh agencies to promote breastfeeding, as well as working with Welsh businesses to promote Wales' Breastfeeding Welcome Scheme, where venues sign up to show they are 'breastfeeding friendly'.

Lancashire Constabulary has launched a campaign to reduce the chances of people becoming victims of sexual assault as a result of excessive alcohol consumption. The police are educating people on safe drinking and urging them to consider the consequences. It is being managed by the in-house press and PR team.

Buckinghamshire County Council and district councils in Wycombe, Chiltern, South Bucks and Aylesbury Vale are running a pilot scheme to merge five council magazines that cost a total of £300,000, in order to save money. The five magazines will be slimmed down from a total of 120 pages to 32 under the pilot, and fewer will be distributed.

APCO Worldwide has won a brief from the Housing Ombudsman Service (HOS) to provide public relations, stakeholder management and opinion research, following a brief in PRWeek (PRWeek, 16 June). The project covers opinion research among tenants and landlords in order to develop a communications and engagement strategy for the HOS. Darren Murphy, managing director of APCO's London office, will lead the account.

The Local Government Association, in conjunction with LG Communications, is holding an employee engagement seminar on 9 October in Birmingham. The event is focused on motivating staff in a recession, to show how communicators can positively impact strategy and improve delivery of service through effective employee engagement. The event will be chaired by LG Communications executive member Fiona Narburgh.
