The Week in Charities

The Independent Expert Group on Expenses, recently set up by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations, has published a consultation paper for charities on how to disclose trustees' and senior management's expenses. NCVO's media and comms manager Grant Imlach said: 'Charities are often funded by public money. The public needs to know they are spending money properly.'

Optimistworld, a not-for-profit website that publishes good news, has taken on Komodo PR to handle its consumer PR. The site has just launched its charity awards for small to medium UK charities.

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home has launched a 'Lost Dog Kit' to combat the rise in stray dogs during the summer holidays. Many people are unaware that local authorities took over responsibility for stray dogs from the police in 2008.

The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign has organised 100 young campaigners to test how accessible UK universities are for disabled people. The charity is planning to launch a league table and a 'how to' guide.

Nacro, the crime reduction charity, has appointed Crimestoppers' Rachel Whitehead as media and comms officer and CSV's Olivia Ware as media relations manager.
