Fellow lobbying friends tell me that APCO’s Nick DeLuca has a
fetish for flashy cars and, despite his fast approaching 38th birthday,
still considers himself a bit of a swinger.
Perhaps part of DeLuca’s secret to eternal youth is that he remains
determinedly single and, more importantly, has so far escaped the bonds
of fatherhood.
Or so he thought ...
DeLuca went on holiday in California this summer with his pal Patrick
Kerr, public affairs manager at London First, a charity set up to
promote the capital.
The two friends decided to rent a car and when it came to filling in the
insurance papers the lady from Avis inquired whether they worked for the
same company.
On receiving a negative answer she paused, carefully looked her
customers up and down and, with a flash of sudden realisation exclaimed:
’I know, father and son.’
DeLuca, mortified at discovering parenthood in such an unexpected
manner, slumped down over the counter, head in hands.
As if this weren’t enough, younger colleagues now regularly greet DeLuca
with a cheery ’Hi pops!’
