Susan Cottam, head of PR and public affairs at Barclays Group, is

leaving at the end of August after eight years at the financial services

group.

Cottam reports to group director of corporate communications Elizabeth

Wade and oversees a team of nine public affairs and PR managers. Since

joining the group as corporate PR manager in 1990, she has handled

issues including the group’s first loss in its history, in 1992, and the

sale of its merchant banking arm, BZW, last year.

Wade said: ’Susan has been very good in her role. We probably have some

potential internal candidates but I haven’t been actively looking. This

may be an opportunity to think of restructuring our PR or tweaking

corporate communications.’

Before joining Barclays, Cottam worked as PR manager for the management

consultancy practice within Coopers and Lybrand and was PR manager at

the London Business School. Cottam is currently considering her

options.

Barclays Group covers Barclays’ financial services operations

worldwide.

The director of communication post within Barclays retail financial

services division is currently vacant (PR Week, 17 April).
