DIARY: There’s a fine art to truly gracious living

To travel and food journalists there is only one Nigel Massey. Doyen of upmarket hotel and restaurant PRs, Massey is the man with the finger on the bejewelled pulse of luxury living.

To travel and food journalists there is only one Nigel Massey. Doyen of

upmarket hotel and restaurant PRs, Massey is the man with the finger on

the bejewelled pulse of luxury living.

Such are his manifold gifts that, when contacts caught wind of a modern

art exhibition at Mayfair’s Washington Hotel, featuring the works of a

certain Nigel Massey, they naturally assumed it was him.

Calls flooded his Pall Mall offices, berating the bemused Massey for his

modesty in keeping such talents hidden.

His curiosity bitten by the barrage, Massey, joint-MD of The Massey

Partnership, visited the show and finally met Massey II. He says: ‘He

was as embarrassed as I was. It’s ridiculous having the same name as

someone else: it’s not as if I’m called John Brown.’

Massey admits that his namesake’s collage-based work was not quite his

bag. ‘It’s very contemporary and I’m, well, more of a traditionalist.’
