23 July An interesting report by former Forrester analyst Charlene Li looks at the brands most engaged in social media. There are no massive surprises, with Starbucks and Dell at spots one and two. The cool bit is where the report compares the financial performance of the companies analysed and their engagement level. The companies that are most engaged tend to have the better performance.

23 July The musician Dave Carroll was taking a trip to Nebraska when he and his band members noticed their guitars were being broken outside. After complaining to United Airlines and getting nowhere he decided to write a song. It is so catchy that 3.7 million people have watched his video. It just goes to show what a good idea, some humour and a catchy riff can achieve through social media.

22 July It's no secret to those I work with that I'm quickly beginning to grow tired of Twitter. I've been on there for almost three years, it's changed a lot, and recently I've been feeling that for me it's not quite right any more. People close to me also hear me griping about other platforms, like how email is fundamentally broken as a comms system. I'm constantly experimenting with new platforms.
