Pulpit’s design intervention
Graphic design consultancy Ruairidh Lappin Associates and Internet
provider Unipalm PIPEX have launched a new international design
magazine, Pulpit, on the Net.
United backing for Rapture
United News and Media is investing pounds 2.5 million in Rapture, the UK
cable channel aimed at 12 to 20 year olds set to launch in October. The
deal follows the recent merger of United News and Media and MAI. Rapture
will be based at MAI-owned Anglia Television’s Norwich studios.
Radio to put ads on the RACC
The Radio Authority has agreed to the setting up of the Radio
Advertising Clearance Centre by radio industry body AIRC to vet radio ad
scripts before they are broadcast. Until now the Broadcast Advertising
Clearance Centre has been the only organisation to vet TV and radio ads.
The RACC is expected to take over from July.
VNU advises on Internet
VNU Business Publications has launched a new quarterly magazine,
Internet Advisor, which will target the business audience with little
knowledge of the Internet’s business potential. Editorial will include
case studies, tutorials on designing web pages and reviews of Internet
Express banks on extra sport
The Daily Express has launched a new weekly, 24-page pull-out sports
supplement which will appear each Monday. It will be edited by sports
editor David Emery.
Media goes under spotlight
The next debate in the Media Guardian series on 16 May will investigate
whether mainstream media is providing adequately for today’s young
people. The panel will include Channel 4 controller of arts and
entertainment Stuart Cosgrove, MP Peter Luff and Sunday Times columnist
Just 17 seeks new editor
Emap Elan’s Just !7 is on the hunt for a new editor to replace Sarah
Bailey who joined Elle five months ago. Managing editor Fiona Gibson has
been filling the post on a temporary basis.
