A Plus has picked up a pounds 200,000 fee account from US electronics
giant AMP to boost its profile among potential European business
AMP, which made dollars 5 billion (pounds 3.3 million) in sales last
year, supplies interconnection and networking products to a range of
sectors, including the automotive, household appliances, computer and
telecommunications industries. However, AMP is keen to widen its appeal
across the electronics market and has hired A Plus to co-ordinate a pan-
European PR programme.
The agency, which beat LJL, Banner, EML and Profile for the business,
will run PR activities for the company’s seven business units in the UK
and direct a PR strategy covering France, Italy, Spain, Germany,
Scandinavia and the Benelux countries.
A Plus has worked with AMP since January 1995 on PR in the UK but was
asked to repitch after the brief was enlarged to include more products
and the rest of the European region.
Deirdre O’Meara, AMP’s European marketing communications manager, said
that the agency and in-house teams would target potential clients
through the specialist electronic and trade press.
‘Most of our clients know us through the one particular product that
they use,’ said O’Meara. ‘We want to broaden that knowledge and show
them what else we can do.’
