N&P’s remaining team of six communications staff will not be amalgamated
into Abbey National’s PR department, as suggested when take-over talks
began last year.
Communications for N&P will be handed over to Abbey National’s corporate
communications department in London’s Baker Street.
Staff numbers at N&P’s communications division have been slowly
declining from its original ten executives since talks with Abbey
National began last July.
Christine Watts, N&P’s manager, corporate communications and head of the
division, quit three months ago and starts work as Asda’s PR chief this
week (PR Week, 9 February).
Her temporary replacement, acting manager, corporate communications Phil
Reed said: ‘We will hold the fort until August which is the scheduled
date for transfer.’
‘As from Friday 2 August the PR division will hand over everything to
the Abbey National’s team’.
N&P launched a PR campaign earlier this year to persuade its 1.4 million
members to vote on the merger. Ninety six per cent voted in favour of
the pounds 1.35 billion takeover.
