Ian Greer Associates gets MPs’ votes



Lobby firm Ian Greer Associates was named as market leader by 31 per

cent of MPs in a syndicated survey of 160 MPs by Harris Research. The

firm was also seen as the most effective - with 65 per cent of MPs

describing it as ‘very’ or ‘quite’ effective. However, IGA rated as

‘low’ or ‘very low’ for honesty and ethical standards by 28 per cent.

Chairman Ian Greer blamed the latter on publicity generated by ‘unfair

accusations in the Guardian’ in 1994 which he hoped would be brought to

court this year.



Mark Borkowski scores with three tenors



Mark Borkowski PR is to handle publicity for the UK leg of this summer’s

Three Tenors world tour. UK promoter Matthias Hoffman has hired the

agency to win coverage for the Wembley appearance of Jose Carreras,

Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti in front of an audience of 60,000.



Public affairs review for IMRO



IMRO, the regulator for investment managers, is reviewing its public

affairs account. Four firms, including incumbent Market Access, have

been asked to pitch for the business which involves parliamentary

monitoring and advice on identifying key political influencers. The

review is being led by IMRO’s head of press Judy Delaforce who joined

from Fidelity Investments last August.



Humphreys heads United’s public policy



United Utilities, Britain’s first ‘multi-utility’ company, has appointed

Stephen Humphreys to the new post of head of public policy unit.

Previously group media relations manager at the company, he will now

report directly to company chairman Sir Desmond Pitcher.



Kleeman to raise funds for Labour



Amanda Kleeman has joined the Labour Party as fund-raising development

consultant. Kleeman will concentrate on raising funds among high net

worth individuals and corporate donors, reporting to the head of the

party’s 20-strong fund-raising department, Michael Cunnington.



Segaworld poaches Kelly from F-H



Segaworld, the indoor theme park set to open in London’s Trocadero

Centre this summer, has poached Fleishman-Hillard’s IT group team leader

Karin Kelly as its PR manager.



Gannon communicates for Lincolnshire



David Gannon is to join Lincolnshire County Council in June as its first

head of communications. Gannon, who has been head of marketing with

Kirklees Metropolitan Council since 1992, will lead a press and PR team

of six.



Lowe Bell Political takes on school fees



The School Fees Insurance Association, a leading provider of private

school fee savings plans, has hired Lowe Bell Political. The firm will

lobby against Inland Revenue proposals to scrap tax relief on

contributions to school fee plans. The campaign will target the

Treasury, Department for Education and MPs.



Edelman dedicates unit to public affairs



Edelman London has created a dedicated public affairs unit headed by

Nick Archer. Edelman MD Abel Hadden said the unit would strengthen its

existing strong public affairs capability. Cathy Byrne, from Westminster

Strategy, and Rob Mallow from IGA joined the unit this week.
