PRAGUE: The Czech PR association, the Association of Public

Relations Agencies, has suspended one of its members pending an inquiry

into accusations that it sought to buy editorial space in a Czech

publication.

The Prague Business Journal alleges that Black Pen, a subsidiary of

advertising agency Leo Burnett, contacted reporter Scott McMillan

offering to ’place a PR article’ for its client United Distillers for ’a

very friendly price’.

Black Pencil claims it was a misunderstanding and that Prague Business

Journal’s ad department offered editorial coverage in exchange for

advertising.

The association meets later this month to decide on action. Pavel

Kucera, supervisory board chairman at the association, is pushing for

the agency to be expelled.

The Association stated six months ago that it would get tough with

members who attempt to buy editorial.
