The European Commission’s environmental wing, Directorate-General
XI has called on Burson-Marsteller to advise on ways of promoting its
sustainable development programme. The agency will run a research
project to assess awareness of the European Union’s Fifth Environmental
Action Programme: Towards Sustainability and suggest ways of
communicating it to the public, industry and environmental groups.
Adopted in 1992, the programme outlines ways of supporting economic
development while limiting environmental damage.
B-M’s appointment follows a restricted call for tender in January. Hill
and Knowlton and Kreab also bid for the business.
