The charity that preserves Henry VIII’s flagship needs the money to build a new museum in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, scheduled to open in time for the 2012 Olympics.

Bell Pottinger will attempt to highlight the importance of the fundraising appeal to the general public, as well as increasing footfall to the current Mary Rose Museum. It will work with the charity for a year, on a 50 per cent paid, and 50 per cent pro bono payment model.

The Mary Rose ship is the only 16th century warship on display anywhere in the world. Earlier this year the charity received a £21 million Heritage Lottery Fund grant, the largest made.

The Mary Rose Trust CEO Rear Admiral John Lippiett said the museum project is its most ambitious, ‘since the Mary Rose was so spectacularly raised from the Solent in 1982 in front of a 60 million TV audience.’
