Armstrong joined this week, having previously spent just two months as head of digital at Waggener Edstrom. He quit the agency in May and has worked as a freelance consultant since then. Armstrong is also a former manager of consumer corporate communications at MySpace.
Kindred topped the PRWeek Top 25 Public Sector Consultancies for 2009 (PRWeek, 17 July). It created the role for Armstrong as part of a plan to expand its digital offering.
Kindred MD Laura Oliphant said: 'Our clients want to see digital and social media as part of their campaigns at a time when the lines between these disciplines are becoming increasingly blurred.'
She added: 'Paul is a strategically important hire for Kindred. One of our core aims is to recruit and retain some of the best talent in the business and Paul's world-class experience speaks for itself.'
Armstrong said of Kindred: 'The integrated approach attracted me to the agency as it aligns with my thoughts on exactly what an agency needs to offer in today's fractured media environment.'
