ATLANTA: Nokia, the Finnish mobile phone and fixed telecoms network
operator, has named Ketchum as its agency for Latin America and has
handed the agency a broad PR programme to be implemented in Argentina,
Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela.
The activities include media relations, product introductions - Nokia
introduces a new product every 28 days on average - and media training
to market managers. The brief will run through 1999 and will expand to
include business-to-business PR and issues management in 2000.
The agency will work from a 1999 budget of dollars 150,000 (pounds
90,000) and will run the account from its Atlanta office.
Nokia corporate communications vice-president Jim Bowman negotiated the
partnership with Ketchum. The agency will work with Blanca Juti, Nokia’s
corporate communications manager in Latin America.
’This is particularly exciting for us because, while telecom is huge
worldwide, in Latin America it is monstrous,’ said Ruben Aguilar,
vice-president and director of the Latin American branch of Ketchum.
