Privately-owned press agency United Press International has teamed up
with the BBC to create what its calls a comprehensive news service for
UK companies doing business in the Middle East.
UPI will carry BBC Monitoring’s international broadcast coverage on its
IBM compatible software package GlobalView.
Michael Rawlinson, UPI’s representative for Europe, the Middle East and
Africa, said that despite growing Internet usage, GlobalView was
attractive to corporate users as there were no on-going dial up charges,
just a monthly fee of USdollars 300, and because it was more secure than
the Internet.
UPI, which is owned by a group of Saudi investors, is also looking at
adding other services to its menu of services.
