John Hume, leader of Northern Ireland’s Social Democratic and Labour
Party has won a PR award for his negotiation role in the peace process.
Hume is the first to receive the Public Relations Institute of Ireland
President’s Medal, which was presented to him at the industry body’s
award ceremony last week.
The PRII’s president Francis Carty said Hume had won the award because
of his ‘outstanding contribution to the understanding and practice of
real public relations.’
‘This is a man who for nearly 30 years has dedicated his life to
bringing together communities and peoples and governments who have been
bitterly opposed to one another,’ said Carty.
