Cindy Pollard, former corporate affairs and marketing services director
at Mercury Communications, has resurfaced at Sony Electronics in New
Jersey.
Pollard, who left Mercury in September 1995 to pursue a ‘broader
international communications assignment’, has joined Sony Electronics as
PR director.
At Sony she reports to corporate communications vice-president Rick
Clancy and will manage public relations in the US for a range of
electronic consumer products, including televisions, video recorders and
PCs.
Pollard joined Mercury’s London headquarters in May 1994 after 12 years
with AT &T in the US. Her original role as Mercury’s corporate affairs
director was expanded six months later to take in marketing services.
Pollard’s stint at Mercury - which is to be merged next year into the
new UK cable and telecoms colossus Cable and Wireless Communications -
coincided with a tumultuous time at the company. During her 15-month
stay the firm had three different chief executives and suffered 2,500
job losses.
Since leaving Mercury, where she was succeeded by marketing director
Simon Esberger, Pollard has been working on freelance projects.
Pollard did not discount the possibility of moving back to Europe at
some point, saying: ‘I am always open for any kind of global
assignment.’
