The Design Council and the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) have announced a new partnership in which they will work together to promote the value of design to UK businesses. The partnership will provide practical ways to help the 100,000 companies in the BCC network use design to become more innovative and competitive. The partnership is planning a number of specific launches towards the end of the year.
Portsmouth City Council has launched a campaign to stop people drinking excessively. The 'Save Dave' campaign has a budget of £30,000 and will last for one year, with the aim of reducing alcohol-related hospital admissions by 12 per cent by October 2010. Estimates suggest 40,000 people in Portsmouth are drinking at levels that may harm their health, with 8,000 high-risk drinkers.
Hammersmith & Fulham Council has been recognised at the Good Communications Awards, organised by PSE, for producing Britain's best local authority publication. H&F News won Council Publication of the Year. The judges highlighted the council's efforts to offset costs to the taxpayer by securing high levels of paid-for advertising. Meanwhile, London Borough of Hillingdon has been named Local Authority of the Year for the second year running.
