US software company Red Hat, the largest distributor of Linex, the

rival operating system to Microsoft Windows, has appointed Firefly to

manage an estimated pounds 250,000 fee campaign.

Firefly won a three-way pitch against Brodeur and Flapjack to handle Red

Hat’s UK PR and co-ordinate its European launch.

Firefly will oversee Red Hat’s launch in the UK, Germany and France, and

has appointed its Fireworks network partner Hillerwurst and Partners for

the German work.

Although Linex is available free over the internet, Red Hat has

repackaged the software for corporate clients and offers backup support

services.

Firefly will work on both business and consumer campaigns to build brand

awareness.

’We will target CEOs who don’t read the IT press and raise awareness of

the brand with those involved in decision making,’ said Firefly director

David Hargreaves, who heads a team of four on the account.
