PUBLIC SECTOR: Manchester council poaches local journalist

Manchester City Council has poached local government specialist Janine Watson from the Manchester Evening News as its head of press. Watson oversees a team of four press officers and reports directly to chief executive Howard Bernstein. Previous incumbent Jane Price, who reported to special projects and marketing manager Penny Boothman, left the council in April to head PR at Manchester 2002, the organiser of the Commonwealth Games. Jacqueline Meenan had filled the role as acting head of press in the interim and now returns to her role as press officer.
