PUBLIC SECTOR: Rail authority poised to appoint PR director

John Prescott’s new rail enforcing body, the Strategic Rail Authority, is to bring in a PR heavyweight to fill the new role of external relations director. The post will oversee the four-strong public affairs department headed by Paul McKie and all aspects of communications with regional assemblies, development agencies and railway companies outside the UK. The position will report to chief executive Mike Grant and chairman Sir Alistair Morton, who have set a brief to put consultation and communication at the heart of the strategic development of the rail network.
