Hi-tech agency The Weber Group has beaten three agencies to a

six-figure brief to promote the European launch of US internet company

SurfMonkey.com.

SurfMonkey.com is an internet search engine aimed at children aged five

to 12, which filters out unsuitable content.

Weber’s brief is to launch the SurfMonkey brand in Europe, handle media

relations, and attract business partners in the UK and Europe.

’Potential partners would be PC manufacturers who could have SurfMonkey

loaded onto their computers when sold, publishing houses whose magazines

could include CD-Roms, as well as research companies and conference

organisers, which can help build brand awareness,’ said Zoe Arden, the

senior director handling the account. US business partners include

Microsoft, Bandai and Intel.

According to recent research, six-out-of-ten UK children regularly

browse the internet. But at the same time, up to one-third have found

something which has upset or embarrassed them.
