Leading supermarket retailer Tesco has selected APCO UK to handle its public affairs.

Leading supermarket retailer Tesco has selected APCO UK to handle

its public affairs.

The agency beat Connect public affairs, Shandwick and incumbent agency

Lawson Lucas Mendelsohn to the account (PR Week, 2 July).

APCO has been briefed to advise the retailer on broad political

strategy, including issues such as the proposed climate change levy the

Treasury is consulting on at the moment, and transport policy.

The agency begins work on the annual account this month, in conjunction

with Welsh affiliate Morgan Allen Moore.

The account will be led by APCO associate director Mark Adams, who

reports to public affairs manager Katherine Edwards.

Adams said: ’Tesco is more than just a supermarket - it was the first to

launch a free internet service and it donates computers to schools - so

there is a huge range of political issues that affect it.’

APCO’s Brussels sister agency, APCO Europe, already works for Tesco,

while the retailer’s Scottish lobbying is handled by GPC Scotland.

- APCO UK has won a competitive pitch to handle UK public affairs for

Europe’s largest drugs wholesaler, GEHE, which owns the 1,300-strong

Lloyds chain of pharmacies. The agency has also been retained alongside

its sister PR company GCI to handle communications for the UK Atomic

Energy Authority (PR Week, 5 March).
