Browne, who was in charge of comms throughout the Baby P scandal, will leave in September to reopen his comms consultancy How Now Communications.
Browne admitted it had been a 'challenging time' for the council.
'I've worked with the new political and managerial leadership, our health partners and the local safeguarding children board to communicate the council's response to the failures in the child protection service highlighted in the new Baby Peter serious case review,' he said. 'Now that improvement plans are in place, externally validated and under way, I have decided to take this experience back into my business.'
The post of head of communication and consultation in Haringey has been advertised and the closing date has passed. A new appointment will be announced shortly.
In the past, How Now has worked on projects for the Audit Commission, a number of London boroughs and the PR Academy.
