Browne, who was in charge of comms throughout the Baby P scandal, will leave in September to reopen his comms consultancy How Now Communications.

Browne admitted it had been a ‘challenging time’ for the council.

‘I’ve worked with the new political and managerial lead¬ership, our health partners and the local safeguarding children board to communi¬cate the council’s response to the failures in the child pro¬tection service highlighted in the new Baby Peter serious case review,’ he said. ‘Now that improvement plans are in place, externally validated and under way, I have decided to take this experience back into my business.’

The post of head of commu¬nication and consultation in Haringey has been advertised and the closing date has passed. A new appointment will be announced shortly.

In the past, How Now has worked on projects for the Audit Commission, a number of London boroughs and the PR Academy.
