Waters leaves the BBC after almost a decade spent helping to develop its online offering. In addition to being judged the second most visible person online by the NowPublic network, Waters also co-authored the influential BBC Dot.Life technology blog.

Waters described his decision as a ‘step outside my comfort zone'.

‘This is an extremely challenging time for PR, with never before seen levels of competition for the attention of the media industry and audiences, and near saturation of news sources and information,' he added.

He will start working at Monument on 6 July, overseeing a client base that includes Capcom, Universal Pictures and KPMG. He reports to Monument founder John Leaver.
