How were you affected by the swine flu issue in 2009? We created a global Swine Flu Task Force to advise clients on the issue, bringing together expertise from our Public Health, Corporate, Employee and Issues and Crisis Management practices. The Task Force also developed a plan to protect our employees and business continuity.

How is the recession affecting the healthcare market, in your eyes? The issues affecting pharma are specific to the industry around access to medicines, cost containment and new product pipelines and quite different from those that have led to recession in the macro economy.  The broader healthcare market could be affected by the recession if consumers reduce their spending on private healthcare, OTC, wellness and lifestyle brands. There is anecdotal evidence to suggest that mental illness and depression increase in challenging economic times.
