Flack: Lord Bell goes Prince Philip

PROs who stumped up the cash to attend the Cannes Lions awards got to witness Bell Pottinger head honcho Lord Bell going a bit Prince Philip.

He joked to a room full of stunned foreign journalists: 'The English don't speak foreign languages, so we force all of you to learn English.' He then claimed: 'I don't carry business cards: I'm far too famous.' But, resplendent in a white tuxedo, Bell looked decidedly nervous dishing out awards when one winning agency took to the stage with its dog ... While lunching at trendy Soho eatery Kettners this week, Flack almost had a brush with fame. The restaurant was being filmed for the latest series of Masterchef and Flack's companion, USP Content head of broadcast PR Louise Gardner, was asked her views on a lamb dish.

Straight-talking Gardner labelled the effort as 'something I could have made myself at home'. Her effort in front of the camera was rewarded with a whopping £1 from the BBC ... Speaking of £1, Bottle PR made ingenious use of the expenses scandal to flog client Poundland, when it emerged that MP David Blunkett claimed for a £1 vinyl diary and MP Jim Fitzpatrick bought his reading glasses from Poundland and claimed back his £1. Bottle provided some shopping tips for other MPs, including '35 ballpoint pens for £1, for signing those all important expenses claims'.
