The Duke of Edinburgh met the world's travel media at Buckingham Palace last Wednesday, as part of a global media tour by VisitBritain to encourage consumers to continue to travel to Britain. Seventy influential travel writers and broadcasters from 31 countries visited the palace as part of His Royal Highness' 88th birthday celebrations.

Merseyside Passenger Transport Executives is seeking a public affairs and PR consultancy for a five-year contract to assist in the development of a political and media strategy. This will support Merseyside’s local transport plan.

Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) director of comms Alun Evans has told PRWeek he is waiting to hear what will happen to the department’s jobs, after the PM announced DIUS will be merged into the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform. ‘There are a lot of ways it could be done,’ said Evans.

LancashireCounty Council has failed to recruit anyone for its newly created director of customers and comms role. The council is considering whether to initiate another round of interviews.

NHS Brightonand Hove has put out a tender for an alcohol social marketing campaign aimed at raising awareness of alcohol units.

Essex Communications– the PR agency being set up by Essex County Council head of comms Giles Roca – could go ahead unchallenged, because Essex now has only one Labour councillor after the local elections. Before the election, Labour councillors were investigating the council’s plans to launch a public affairs agency.

LincolnshireCounty Council has launched a new monthly newspaper called Inside Lincolnshire. The publication is written, edited and published by Summersault Communications and is distributed to 340,000 households. Inside Lincolnshire aims to keep residents informed about the council’s activities.
