The HOS is an independent service set up to deal with complaints and disputes involving providers of housing services, including landlords and letting agents. It is funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government.
The brief is for an agency to draft a communication and engagement strategy and put it into practice by setting in motion a programme of activities.
The HOS has proposed that activities could include research and feedback exercises, to be carried out either by external agencies or internally by its own staff.
The Government plans to crack down on bad landlords. Proposals under consideration include a new national register of every private landlord in England.
It also wants an improved complaints and compensation procedure for tenants and a change in the law to ensure tenants have a minimum of two months notice if they have to leave because their landlord’s property has been repossessed.
