Opinion: From our Readers - Graduates need an edge

You do not need a degree to practice PR, but marketing dynamics, business environment, organisational behaviour, planning and financial management - all modules taught on a comms degree - are key skills that budding business executives need. And PR is a business, isn't it?

If undergraduates have their heads screwed on, they take a year out in industry before completing their degree. That is the edge, the added value that any self-respecting PR graduate should have.

In this stressed financial world we require graduates who can think outside the box and get stuck into the world of business from day one. A PR graduate from a decent business school is as good a starting point as any for hiring today's aspiring new talent.
