Bosses polled on degrees

PR bosses still favour traditional academic degrees over vocational or 'new' degrees, according to fresh research.

JFL Search & Selection rec-ently surveyed more than 600 senior PROs, both in-house and agency, about their plans for graduate recruitment in 2009. Given a multiple choice, 65 per cent favoured traditional academic degrees, 27 per cent opted for vocational degrees, and six per cent were impressed by 'degrees of passion' such as fine art or music. Just two per cent chose 'new' degrees such as media studies.

Seventy-three per cent said the most important thing they looked for on a CV was fluent and grammatically correct writing skills. Some 69 per cent looked for charity, voluntary work or campaigning experience on a CV.
