He will join the consultancy in September having left the world's second largest retailer in January.

Shriver has a previous working relationship with Tulchan - albeit a brief one. He was instrumental in selecting Tulchan to handle Carrefour's financial comms in early 2005 before its new CEO Luc Vandevelde handed the account to Brunswick just a month later.

Shriver joined Carrefour in Paris as director of group financial communication in 2003 and became strategic advisor to the chief executive in 2006. Prior to joining Carrefour David spent 15 years covering the food retail sector as an analyst for Credit Suisse First Boston and at NatWest Securities.

Andrew Grant, founder of Tulchan said: ‘David's strategic insight, experience of capital markets and his understanding of international financial communications will be of great benefit to our current and future clients.'

Tulchan handles the financial communications of Marks & Spencer and Shriver's appointment will boost its corporate retail offering after recently losing Dominic Fry to M&S as its director of communications

Separately, Tulchan consultant David Trenchard is leaving the agency to join Knight Vinke in a new role to help build their assets under management.
